India’s U-19 Youth ODI sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to make headlines. After his stunning Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Rajasthan Royals, where he smashed a blistering century, the teenage prodigy has been in top form during the ongoing Youth ODI series in England. His consistent brilliance has now caught the attention of former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who believes that Suryavanshi could soon be fast-tracked into the Indian senior team.

Speaking to former England captain Michael Atherton during commentary at the India vs England Edgbaston Test, Shastri emphasized the importance of First-Class cricket in shaping Suryavanshi’s path to the top level.

“He will play First-Class cricket, but that’s what the IPL does. It gives you that platform. The whole country sees you. And you catch the imagination of everyone. It will fast-track him if he goes and plays First-Class cricket, goes and gets a couple of hundreds in his first couple of seasons,” Shastri said.

Shastri also highlighted the importance of international youth tours like the current one in England, stating that the experience will only accelerate Suryavanshi’s development.

“He has already caught the eyes; already made it to the Under-19 team at the age of 14. Smacking it everywhere. And it’s tours like this to England, with this exposure. He can only improve,” he added.

On Saturday in Worcester, Suryavanshi delivered another standout performance, scoring the fastest century in Youth ODI history in just 52 balls. His explosive knock of 143 runs off 78 balls, which included 10 sixes and 13 fours, helped India seal a 55-run victory over England U-19.

Suryavanshi’s numbers in the ongoing series have been exceptional. In just seven Youth ODIs, he has already hit over 32 sixes, closing in on Unmukt Chand’s record of 38 sixes in the format.
