As the IPL enters the business end of the tournament, the franchises will soon move to planning for the next year. And in doing so some big names who were paid big bucks are likely to be traded or released.
Among one of the highest paid players in IPL history is Venkatesh Iyer, sources say the all-rounder might not be retained further and is likely to be traded. Kolkata Knight Riders paid 23.75 crores for Iyer and the 30 year-old had a forgettable season under the pressure of the price tag. Except for one impact knock, his bat was silent and he never got a chance to bowl. Alongside Iyer, there is another name that might not feature in KKR’s scheme of things for 2026 and it is Chandrakant Pandit.

There are other players who could be overlooked and one of them is a key batter from Rajasthan Royals and another key Indian bowler from LSG.
At the end of the day, IPL is a ruthless competition where franchises go above and beyond to ensure success and it will be no surprise if a number of under-performers are let go of ahead of the next season.
While Rishabh Pant has had a poor season, sources say that LSG will want to continue with him for one more season in 2026 at least. They will look at the current season as a one-off aberration. Although stakes are higher than ever for Rishabh Pant who will have to prove his mettle in the upcoming five -match Test series in England. With Ishan Kishan and Dhruv Jurel waiting on the bench, the pressure will only mount on Pant, following a poor IPL season, in the weeks ahead.
