Shafali Verma has missed out on a place in India Women’s squad for the upcoming home ODI series against Australia and the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Despite her exclusion from the 15-member squad for the World Cup, India women’s team Chief Selector Neetu David insisted that Shafali remains very much in the plans going forward.
Speaking at a press conference today, David said: “Shafali Verma is very much part of our system. Right now, she is playing in Australia, but we are keeping an eye on her. The idea is that the more she plays, the more experience she gains, and that will help India in the future, especially in the 50-over format.”
Shafali, who has represented India in 29 WODIs, has scored 644 runs at an average of 23.00, including four half-centuries. The 21-year-old is currently playing for India A Women in Australia against Australia A Women. She recently struck a half-century in the third and final unofficial ODI at Brisbane on Sunday, August 17.
