The opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 marked the return of two of India’s biggest cricket stars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, to domestic cricket. Both smashed centuries for their respective teams. Virat also achieved a historic milestone while playing for Delhi against Andhra.

Virat became the fastest player to score 16,000 runs in List A cricket. He achieved this milestone in just 330 innings. His knock broke Sachin Tendulkar’s earlier record, who took 391 innings to reach 16,000 runs. Virat also set a record for being the quickest to every 1,000-run milestone from 10,000 runs onwards in List A cricket.

Batting at number three, Virat scored 131 runs off 101 balls. His knock included 14 boundaries and three maximums at a strike rate of 129.70. His innings helped Delhi win the opening match by four wickets in Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, was playing for Mumbai against Sikkim, where he scored a stunning 155 runs off just 94 balls. His knock included 18 boundaries and nine maximums, and he reached his century in just 62 balls.

With this knock, Rohit equalled David Warner’s record of nine scores of 150 or more in List A cricket. At the age of 38, he became the second-oldest player to score a century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Mumbai secured an eight-wicket victory, and Rohit was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.
