Virat Kohli, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, is known for his passion and intensity on the field. He is always ready to lead from the front and inspire his teammates with his batting, fielding and captaincy skills. But on Friday, September 15, 2023, Kohli showed a different side of himself by turning into a water boy during the India-Bangladesh Asia Cup 2023 match.
Kohli was benched for the Super Fours game as India had already qualified for the final and decided to rest some of their key players. Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were replaced by Tilak Varma, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna and Suryakumar Yadav in the playing XI.
However, Kohli did not sit idle in the dugout and watch the match. He was seen rushing out to the middle with water bottles in his hands whenever there was a drinks break. He also made some funny gestures while running towards his teammates, making them laugh.
A video of Kohli’s antics went viral on social media and fans loved his gesture of serving drinks to his fellow players. They praised him for being humble and supportive even when he was not playing. They also called him the ‘all-time greatest entertainer of cricket’ for his comical sprints.
Kohli’s gesture also showed his respect for the game and his willingness to contribute in any way possible. He did not let his ego come in the way of helping his team. He also set an example for the youngsters who were playing in his place.
India won the toss and chose to bowl first against Bangladesh and also beat India by 6 runs in a thrilling finish. Shakib Al Hasan was the player of the match.
India will face Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Kohli is expected to return to the playing XI and lead India’s quest for their eighth Asia Cup title.
