On Sunday, August 6, West Indies’ wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran revealed his shifted perspective on the game. Since relinquishing captaincy after the T20 World Cup last year, Pooran has been focused on both entertaining the audience and contributing to the team’s success.
In the close encounter, Pooran emerged as the top run-scorer in the match as West Indies won the second T20I by two wickets. The left-handed batter smashed an impressive 67 runs from just 40 deliveries, playing a pivotal role in West Indies’ successful pursuit of India’s total of 152/7.
“I wanted to perform and be satisfied with this. Honestly, I want to finish the game. But when I got out, I thought it was done and dusted. But it is cricket, anything can happen and we did see the game turning on its head,” he said after winning the Man of the Match award.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a purple patch (when asked about his current form), working for past two years, but we have been losing. I’ve learnt and am peaking at the right time. Now I look at the game differently and want to put the team first and continue to entertain,” he added
The third T20I between the two countries is scheduled to take place at the same venue in Guyana on Tuesday, August 8.
