Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 18-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday was marred by an altercation between Virat Kohli, the face of the Bangalore franchise, and Gautam Gambhir, the former India opener and current Member of Parliament who is now also a mentor for the Lucknow team. Kohli’s behavior caught the eye, as he pumped his fists and let fly with a few verbals as Lucknow lost wickets throughout the chase.

In a previous IPL 2023 game between the two sides in Bengaluru, Gambhir had gestured to the crowd to shut up, but it is uncertain if Kohli’s actions were related to that incident. However, after the match, the two made peace and shook hands, appearing to resolve any differences they may have had.

During this exchange, Kyle Mayers, the Lucknow opener, approached Kohli and was seen asking him something, prompting Gambhir to intervene and take him away. Later in the match, footage showed Gambhir becoming animated and directing comments towards Kohli, leading to other players and support staff separating the two. Kohli then engaged in a lengthy conversation with KL Rahul, the Lucknow captain.
