Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, acknowledged the presence of extra bounce in the Oval pitch, which will be the venue for the World Test Championship final against India. With the objective of taking 20 wickets, Cummins emphasized the importance of timing and selecting the right moments to push for wickets. He also mentioned the availability of multiple bowlers, which provides flexibility in utilizing their skills at different stages of the game.
“You need to know your moments to push for wickets. We need to get 20 wickets and there is no point trying everything in the first innings. We have plenty of bowlers to be used at different times,” he said at an event ahead of the WTC Final.
While Australia has had a disappointing win percentage of 14 in the last 50 Test matches at the Oval, Cummins pointed out that many of the current players have not been part of that record. He expressed confidence in the quality and abilities of the team to perform well in the upcoming match.
“Our playing group hasn’t played too many of those 50 Tests. We have played few Ashes games, most of us. Few guys have scored runs and bowlers have had some pace and bounce. So it should be good,” Cummins added.
