Pakistan captain Shan Masood is satisfied with Babar Azam’s performance in the Multan Test, in the ongoing series against South Africa, who in turn recently won the ICC Test Championship earlier this year. Speaking after the match, Masood said that Babar’s performance should be judged keeping the difficult conditions in mind.

“We have to keep our expectations lower in these conditions,” he said. “Babar looked very assured in both innings. He got set and got out, but those were difficult conditions. Even South Africa’s batters found it tough to convert starts.”

Babar was not selected in the Asia Cup 2025 squad, where Pakistan lost to India in the final, and there were mixed reactions from the experts about this decision. In this match, he made 23, including four fours in the first innings while in the second innings, he was the leading run-scorer getting 42 runs which included five boundaries. Pakistan won the game by 93 runs.

This performance can be considered as a positive sign for Babar, who was criticised in recent times for his lack of form. The former Pakistan captain’s fluent stroke-play suggested that big runs might be coming soon. The second match of the two-game Test series is scheduled to start from October 20, in Rawalpindi, and the fans are eager to see a big innings from the right-hander.
