“We’ll take care of business on the pitch — you guys just sit back, relax, and enjoy the game,”: Jamie Maclaren

Mohun Bagan forward Jamie Maclaren has urged the fans to remain calm and avoid any heated exchanges or incidents with away supporters, referencing the recent altercation in Jamshedpur that prompted security to resort to a lathi charge.

“I want our fans to really stick by us and just focus on football,” Maclaren said. “Don’t get involved in any issues off the pitch. Be professional, show passion in the right way. We’re going to show that same passion — we’ll fight for you. Stay humble, because tonight is going to be a cracking game. Myself, Dimi — we’re going to lead from the front.”

Maclaren, who has racked up 11 goals and 2 assists in the current ISL season, was speaking at an event in Kolkata titled India@100: Leadership Insight from Sport. He has his sights set firmly on reaching the final, following Mohun Bagan’s impressive comeback in the second leg of the semi-final against Jamshedpur.

“We’ll take care of business on the pitch — you guys just sit back, relax, and enjoy the game,” added the five-time A-League Golden Boot winner.

When asked about his most unforgettable moment with Mohun Bagan, Maclaren pointed to the final whistle that confirmed their ISL Shield triumph after Dimi Petratos netted the late winner “When you sign me, you won’t regret it. I came here for collective success,” he had told the management — a statement that perfectly reflects his team-first mentality despite his individual accolades.

Dimitri Petratos echoed those sentiments, sharing that his most cherished moment was also the Shield win. He fondly recalled the emotional embrace with Maclaren after the final whistle — a celebration that symbolised their long-standing bond.

“I’ve known Jamie for over 15 years, and this was the first trophy we’ve won together. So this was a very special moment,” said Petratos.
