Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Richie Richardson and Brian Lara have been called up by the West Indies. These three great batters have been picked to join the team during the upcoming Test series in India. They however won’t be making a return to the crease, but they will be batting for West Indies cricket off the field to meet broadcasters and corporate sponsors on behalf of Cricket West Indies (CWI).
“The legacy these guys have and the love for West Indies cricket they have means they were very keen to protect the game. Brian, Sir Viv and Sir Richie are all coming with us to India to meet broadcasters and corporate sponsors,” said Chris Dehring, the CEO of CWI.
“That’s how much they’re committed to helping us resuscitate West Indies cricket. We’re taking a team of them and having a corporate golf day and inviting all the big Indian sponsors, and a Caribbean evening with the players, just to explain what cricket means to us.”
Dehring is expected to offer more details at the CWI’s quarterly media conference to be held on Wednesday morning.
West Indies are presently in India preparing for the start of the two-match series. The first game will be at the 100,000-seater Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It starts on Thursday morning (12 midnight Barbados Time).
