Rain has played spoilsport in a big way at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans continue to wait to take the field for the grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With hailstorms and rain delaying the start of the match, there was major confusion among fans on social media with regards to the Reserve Day for the final. To clear up such rumours, there is a reserve day allocated for the IPL 2023 final in case the match doesn’t go ahead, or cannot be completed on Sunday, due to the bad weather in Ahmedabad.
Notably, the drainage system at the venue is excellent. The Qualifier 2 was also affected by rain, which caused a delay of 30 minutes. However, the ground staff were quick to turn things around, and get the ground ready for a full game.

Here, we answer some key questions regarding the playing conditions.
What if continues to rain on Sunday?
- No overs will be lost if the match starts before 9:40 PM.
- The cut-off to start a five-overs-a-side game is 12:26 am IST.
How will the reserve day work?
- If the match starts and it starts raining again, then the game will resume from where it was paused on May 29 (Monday). Each team must have faced at least five overs for this to be the case.
- If even five-overs-a-side is not possible on Sunday, then the game will start afresh on the reserve day.
- If it rains even on the reserve day, then the same procedure will be followed on Monday.
- If a minimum of five overs a side is not possible on Monday, there will be a Super Over decider.
- If even a Super-Over decider is not possible, then Gujarat Titans will be declared winners as they finished above Chennai Super Kings in the league stage.
