The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 is all set to return and this year’s buzz isn’t just about the big-money buys—it’s also about legacy and fresh promise. In a season that promises both talent and nostalgia, Aryavir Sehwag, son of legendary Indian batter Virender Sehwag, and Aryaveer Kohli, nephew of Virat Kohli, are grabbing all the early spotlight

Aryavir Sehwag, aged 17, was bought by Central Delhi Kings for ₹8 lakhs after a competitive bidding war in the auction. A rising name in Delhi’s junior cricket scene, Aryavir has impressed selectors with his composure and strokeplay. The young opener’s signing marks one of the most talked-about moves in this year’s DPL auction.

Meanwhile, in a bittersweet turn for the Sehwag family, Vedant Sehwag, the younger son of Virender Sehwag and just 14 years old, went unsold. However, given his performances in junior cricket for Delhi, he remains a prospect to watch in coming years.

Aryaveer Kohli, a leg-spinner and nephew of Virat Kohli, was picked up by South Delhi Superstarz, the team led by Ayush Badoni. Though less known than Aryavir, Aryaveer’s variations and consistency have caught the eyes of scouts, and he’s expected to be an asset for the spin department in Delhi’s T20-heavy tournament.

Among the costliest purchases of the DPL 2025 Auction, Simarjeet Singh, the experienced pacer, was picked up by Central Delhi Kings for a massive ₹39 lakhs, making him the most expensive player this season.

Digvesh Singh, a mystery spinner who gained national attention during the IPL, was signed by South Delhi Superstarz for ₹38 lakhs. Both teams have stacked their squads with a mix of youth and experience and are likely to be strong contenders this season.

Rishabh Pant, India’s Test vice-captain, has been retained as the marquee player for Purani Dilli 6. The franchise made it to the semi-finals last year and is expected to build further momentum with Pant at the helm.

Pant expressed his excitement following his retention: “Purani Dilli 6 truly feels like home, fueled by the vibrant energy of the Delhi fans and an unparalleled hunger to win. Following a promising season last year, our determination to succeed has only intensified, and we are optimistic about returning even stronger

this year.”
