As I write this piece, members of the RevSportz team are in Zimbabwe to cover the U-19 Men’s World Cup, in Navi Mumbai to cover the WPL, in Delhi for the India Open Badminton, and in Chennai for the Hockey India League – not to mention Vadodara and Rajkot for the ongoing India vs New Zealand ODI series.
Of these, the India–New Zealand series is a headline across every media outlet. Virat Kohli leading the Indian run chase is music to fans’ ears, and inevitably there is a great deal of buzz around it. But each of the other events is no less important. In fact, this is where we in the media need to do more. This is a game-changing year for women’s cricket, and the momentum needs to be sustained. Coverage of women’s football, badminton, and para sports is critical in a Commonwealth Games and Asian Games year, not to forget the AFC outings for our girls.
This is where Muthukumar’s support has made a difference. Each time we have spoken, he has voiced his wholehearted backing for sports that aren’t traditionally covered. “As corporates, that’s where we can make a difference,” he has told me.
In today’s edition of Leadership Lessons from Sport, Muthu speaks about the Olam Agri philosophy, his own goals, what he has learnt from sport, and more.
It is a profound episode that will leave us all thinking – and wanting to step up and do more.
Events where RevSportz and Olam Agri will be working together:
- WPL
- Women’s T20 World Cup in June
- Asian Para Games
- Commonwealth Games
And may I say, I very much look forward to having Muthu with us at the Trailblazers Conclave, where we will do a deep dive into how corporate India can help transform Indian sport and make the country a true multi-sport nation in the years to come.
