Young West Indies pacer Jayden Seales has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for a send-off directed at Australian captain Pat Cummins on the opening day of the first Test in Barbados.

The incident took place in the 55th over of Australia’s first innings at Kensington Oval, when Seales dismissed Cummins for 28 off 18 balls and pointed towards the dressing room in celebration. It marked his second offence in a 24-month period, earning him a second demerit point.

Seales was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon their dismissal during an international match.”

Nothing disrespectful: Seales in his defense

Addressing the media at the end of the day’s play, Seales downplayed the incident:

“It wasn’t anything serious—just a moment of frustration. Pat hit me for a couple of good shots, so I simply pointed him to the dressing room. It wasn’t meant to be disrespectful.”

According to ICC regulations, the accumulation of four or more demerit points within a two-year span can lead to suspension. Two suspension points result in a ban from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is.

Seales delivered a standout performance in the first innings, claiming five wickets and helping bowl Australia out for 180. West Indies managed a slender 10-run lead, scoring 190 in response. At stumps on day two, Australia were 92/4 in their second innings, with Seales having taken the wicket of Josh Inglis. He will look to make further inroads when play resumes on day three.
