The second ODI of the West Indies tour of Ireland, played at Clontarf Cricket Club, ended in disappointment as heavy rain washed out the match before Ireland could even begin their chase. Despite no result, the West Indies posted an impressive total of 352 for eight in 50 overs.

Keacy Carty led the way with a brilliant 123 off 115 balls, marking his second ODI century. Matthew Forde lit up the innings with a blistering knock, equalling AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest ODI half-century, reaching 50 in just 16 balls. He went on to score a rapid 58 off just 19 deliveries.

Ireland had started well with the ball. Barry McCarthy and Josh Little removed the West Indies openers early. However, Shai Hope and Carty stabilised the innings with a solid 81-run partnership. Hope looked in fine touch but fell just one run short of a half-century.

Ireland, having won the first ODI, now lead the series 1-0 heading into the final match

Carty took charge in the middle overs, accelerating after his fifty. His innings included 13 boundaries and a six, at a strike rate of 93.57. After Carty’s dismissal, the West Indies lost momentum and were 246 for six before Forde’s explosive hitting changed the game. He smashed four sixes in an over from Little, helping his team cross the 350-run mark.

Justin Greaves added an unbeaten 44, and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with 18, as the team scored 106 runs in the last 42 balls. However, persistent rain during the interval meant Ireland didn’t get a chance to bat. The match was officially called off at 5:20 pm local time.

Ireland, having won the first ODI, now lead the series 1-0 heading into the final match. The Men in Maroon will be eager to level the series in the third ODI.
