Uncapped Johann Layne has been drafted into the West Indies ODI squad as a replacement for the injured Matthew Forde for the three-match series against Pakistan, starting on Friday. Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed the development ahead of the series opener at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

According to CWI, Forde dislocated his left shoulder while attempting a catch during the team’s training session on Wednesday.

“West Indies Academy pacer Johann Layne will replace Matthew Forde in the squad for the three matches against Pakistan starting on Friday,” said an official CWI release.

Layne, a 21-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder from Barbados, joins the 15-man squad with experience in just 12 List A matches, in which he has taken 13 wickets, with best bowling figures of 3/55. With the bat, he averages 17.71.

While this marks Layne’s maiden ODI call-up, he received his first Test call-up earlier this year in June, during Australia’s tour of the Caribbean for a three-match series.

The Men in Maroon are already without pace spearhead Alzarri Joseph, who is being rested for the series.

Forde was expected to start in the playing XI alongside Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. However, with him now unavailable, the West Indies could turn to Justin Greaves or Layne to fill the spot.

West Indies’ Updated ODI Squad for Pakistan Series:
Shai Hope (Captain), Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, Johann Layne.
