In a huge setback for Pakistan, senior batter Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies after suffering a left hamstring strain during the second T20I. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that no replacement will be named for the series.

The 35-year-old sustained the injury in the 19th over while chasing a ball in the outfield. He received immediate attention from the team physio and has since been sidelined from all cricketing activity. Consequently, Fakhar did not feature in the third and final T20I, which Pakistan won by 13 runs to seal the series 2–1.

According to the PCB, a medical assessment revealed a mild strain. “Fakhar will return to Pakistan on the evening of August 4 and will continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of the PCB medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore,” the board said in an official statement.

The injury brings Fakhar’s Caribbean tour to a premature end. He had a quiet T20I series, scoring 28 and 20 in the first two matches. Despite promising starts, he was unable to convert them into substantial innings.

In his absence, Abdullah Shafique is expected to return to the top of the order alongside Saim Ayub for the ODIs.

Pakistan will face West Indies in a three-match ODI series from August 8 to 12, with all matches scheduled to be played in Trinidad.

Pakistan’s Updated ODI Squad: Mohammad Rizwan (captain), Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Muhammad Haris, Naseem Shah, Muhammad Nawaz, Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufyan Muqim.
