Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has suggested bringing back Andy Flower as the coach of the England cricket team.
Pietersen shared his thoughts on X and wrote: “This is a WILD thought. I reckon one of my wildest. Can England bring back Andy Flower now that he’s changed and in line with the modern-day player? He gets Test Cricket. I’ve been told by many players that he’s changed his ways since our drama. He’s winning leagues so really does get the modern day player. VERY IMPORTANT! Wild, I know! Thoughts?”
England suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Australia in the recently concluded Ashes series 2025/26. The team’s approach under captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum came under scrutiny throughout the series. Several experts and fans have called for McCullum to be removed from the role.
Flower enjoyed a highly successful tenure as England’s head coach. Under his guidance, England won two Ashes series — first in 2010/11 and then in 2013. They also defeated India in India in a Test series the following year. England won their maiden T20 World Cup under Flower in 2010.
The former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter served as England’s head coach for five years, with his tenure ending in 2014. Since then, he has coached in franchise leagues across the world and most recently led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their maiden IPL title in 2025.
