England and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mark Wood is likely to miss the final stages of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, as he will fly back home to be with his wife for the birth of their second child in late May.

According to a report on EspnCricinfo, Wood won’t likely return to India to take part in the business end of the tournament. England will start their home summer with a one-off Test match against Ireland, commencing on June 1 at Lord’s.

Meanwhile, the league phase of the IPL will end on May 21, and play-off games are scheduled to be held on May 23, 24 and 26. The summit clash of the tournament will take place on May 28. So there is a gap of just four days between the final of IPL and the one-off Test versus Ireland

Wood has been a key player for LSG this season, having picked up 11 wickets at an astounding average of just over 11.  He began his 2023 IPL campaign on a great note by taking 5 for 14 against Delhi Capitals. Wood, however, missed LSG’s last couple of games due to illness. In his place, LSG have picked Afghanistan pace bowler Naveen-ul-Haq.
