It was a star-studded evening at Centre Court as Novak Djokovic produced a thrilling comeback victory over Australia’s Alex de Minaur on Monday, 7 July 2025, to seal his place in the Wimbledon 2025 quarterfinals. The seven-time Wimbledon singles champion bounced back after losing the first set to win the next three and continue his hunt for another Grand Slam title.
Among the many big names in attendance were eight-time champion Roger Federer and cricketing legends such as Joe Root, James Anderson, and former India captain Virat Kohli, who was accompanied by his wife, actress Anushka Sharma. But what caught the attention of fans online was Kohli’s enthusiastic reaction to Djokovic’s performance.
Kohli shared a moment from Djokovic’s win on his Instagram story and praised the tennis legend’s composure and grit. “What a win! It was business as usual for the gladiator,” Kohli wrote.
Djokovic, the former world No. 1, noticed the gesture and responded by resharing Kohli’s post on his own Instagram story, adding: “Thank you for supporting.”
The match didn’t start well for Djokovic, who lost the first set 6-1 to de Minaur. However, he quickly found his rhythm and took control of the match, winning the next three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
In his post-match interview, Djokovic spoke about the rough start and how he managed to bounce back. “It wasn’t a great start for me, it was a great start for Alex de Minaur obviously. I kind of reset myself in the second set. I was very pleased to hang in tough in the right moments and win this one,” Djokovic said.
With the win, Djokovic advances to the quarterfinals where he will face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli on Wednesday, 9 July.
