Ahead of the 2025 Women’s Hundred tournament, Southern Brave have appointed Luke Williams as their new head coach. He replaces Charlotte Edwards, who is currently serving as the head coach of the England Women’s team.

Williams has been part of the Southern Brave setup since the tournament’s inception in 2021, having previously worked under Edwards. Under their leadership, the team finished as runners-up in 2021 and 2022 before finally winning the title in 2023.

Williams brings with him an impressive coaching résumé beyond the Hundred. He guided the Adelaide Strikers to back-to-back titles in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in 2022 and 2023. Most recently, he was the head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), leading them to their first-ever trophy in 2024.

Williams to Work with Familiar Faces This Season

Last month, Williams was also one of the consultant coaches during England’s home series against the West Indies. Now, as he steps into a major role with Southern Brave, he will be reunited with several familiar players—including Laura Wolvaardt, who is also a key member of the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL.

“It’s a privilege to take charge of Southern Brave this year from Charlotte Edwards. Having worked with the team since for a number of years, we have an excellent group of players and staff and recruited well in the draft earlier this year, so hopefully we can get back to Finals Day and lift the trophy this summer,” Williams said.
