England fast bowler Mark Wood has revealed that Rohit Sharma is the toughest batter he has faced in his career. Speaking on the YouTube show The Overlap Cricket, Wood explained that Rohit’s ability to handle the short ball with authority made him extremely difficult to bowl to.

“Yeah, in different stages of my career, I would say Rohit Sharma. Difficult because against the short ball, you feel like you’ve got a chance of getting him out, but also if he’s on that day, he smokes it. So, he was difficult. I always felt like his bat was big, just kept getting wider,” Wood said.

Rohit and Wood crossed paths across formats several times between 2018 and 2024. In Test cricket, Wood bowled 105 deliveries to Rohit, conceding 92 runs and dismissing him twice.

In ODIs, Rohit scored 113 runs off 127 balls from Wood at a strike rate of 89.00, again falling twice. In T20Is, Wood bowled 18 balls to Rohit, conceding 24 runs while dismissing him only once, with the Indian opener striking at 133.3.

Rohit, who retired from T20Is after leading India to their second T20 World Cup title in 2024, also stepped away from Test cricket ahead of the England tour during IPL 2025. Despite these retirements, fans are eagerly awaiting his presence in India’s upcoming ODI series in Australia, where his experience and form will be crucial.
