World Cup Venues and Schedule To Be Unveiled During WTC Final

The schedule for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, the future of Asia Cup and the next edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) were among many agenda points discussed as the top brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) assembled at the Special General Meeting in Ahmedabad on May 27, sources told RevSportz.

One of the most talked-about points in relation to the ODI World Cup has been the schedule and the venues, which are yet to be announced with the showpiece tournament now just four months away. The venues will be revealed at a press conference during the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, as will the full schedule for the October-November event.

While the fate of the Asia Cup 2023 has been the subject of major debate in the last few months, owing to the tussle between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the future of the tournament will be decided in a meeting with the ACC members on the sidelines of the IPL 2023 final.

A committee is set to be formed to decide on the logistics of the ODI World Cup 2023, and also the next Women’s Premier League. It is highly likely that the composition of these committees will be announced in the next week, following the conclusion of IPL 2023.

As for the WPL in 2024, the Board will hold talks with the broadcasters to decide a window. The BCCI wants the tournament to be conducted before March 2024. The candidates for the post of the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team have also been shortlisted. The Ashok Malhotra-led CAC will meet and interview them, and announce their decision before the upcoming series against Bangladesh.

The IPL 2023 has been a grand success on television and digital media, but it was not limited to just that. The IPL Fan Parks have averaged around 25,000 spectators.

Another hot topic that has left the BCCI scratching their heads are the frequent injuries and breakdown of key players. To address the injury concerns, the Board have created a structure where every state association will appoint a Strength and Conditioning coach and a Sport Science and Sports Medicine team. The candidates will be interviewed by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) panel.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is also in talks with England and New Zealand to conduct shadow tours for the India A team.

The draft for the structure of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) policy is ready, and will be presented during the next Annual General Meeting for ratification and approval.
