Some days from now, on July 25th, World IVF Day will be celebrated. A day when we will celebrate the advances in reproductive medicine and fertility treatment that has changed lives the world over. At RevSportz, we have been concerned with this aspect of health and health awareness as far as athletes’ lives and life choices are concerned.

When it comes to the matter of motherhood, or rather parenthood, athletes have been facing tough decisions on the choice between career and children, often at their peak or prime. MC Mary Kom has spoken to us about the challenges of motherhood and about how she balanced her children with her training sessions, her medals and her career highs and lows. On the other hand, Anju Bobby George failed to make a comeback post motherhood. In her own words, her efforts for the 2012 Olympics proved to be an utter failure on account of weight gain and inability to train at the required levels, post childbirth.

This World IVF Day we return to the discussion table in a high-impact session where we speak to Key Opinion Leaders and stakeholders in the field of reproductive medicine and health, and hear the voices of top athletes. Our very own correspondent will also report from Manchester where the first IVF baby Louise Brown was born in Oldham’s General Hospital in 1978. For the next few days, leading up to 25th July, we will carry small video segments each day, highlighting this vision of health awareness, the importance of choice and timing in the decision of reproduction, and how that impacts the progression of sportspersons and sport as a whole.

Discussion will extend to the seldom discussed topic of male infertility and the need to create awareness around it. The session will also have a conversation on egg freezing and factoring in the impact of lifestyle. For athletes especially, what diet or other changes do specialists suggest if they wish to undertake IVF treatment?

Stay tuned and join into the high impact live session on 25th July.
