Former Australian leg-spinner Kristen Beams has been appointed as the new spin-bowling coach of defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) for the 2026 Women’s Premier League season.

Beams is expected to bring rich international and coaching experience, having represented Australia in all three formats between 2014 and 2017. Speaking about her new role, Beams shared her excitement through MI’s Instagram post, saying,”It’s an incredible opportunity to work with someone like a Jhulan Goswami, one of the greats of the game, somebody I played cricket against.”

She further added,“[It’s an] incredible culture…that they’ve developed a winning culture over a really long period of time, but a family that’swhat you hear everyone talk about that this group is so tight-knit, and it’s a family and it’s what you want to be a part of. And I think as a coach coming in, that’s exactly what you want to be able to do, is to walk into an environment that feels really tight-knit, and a team that knows how to win.”

Beams will work alongside head coach Lisa Keightley, and this will be her first season with MI after spending three years with Delhi Capitals. The coaching setup also includes bowling coach and mentor Jhulan Goswami, batting coach Devika Palshikar, and fielding coach Nicole Bolton.

During her playing career, Beams was part of one Test, 30 ODIs, and 18 T20Is, and also represented Melbourne Stars in the WBBL. After retiring, she coached in the WBBL, The Hundred, and Australia’s Under-19 women’s team.

Mumbai Indians will begin their WPL 2026 campaign on January 9 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Navi Mumbai.
