Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced Malolan Rangarajan as the new head coach of their Women’s Premier League (WPL) team. The franchise shared the news on their official Instagram page on Thursday, November 6. Malolan takes over from Luke Williams, who had been in charge since 2024. Luke’s ongoing commitments with the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) influenced the decision.

RCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Rajesh Menon, said, “Malolan has been integral to RCB’s growth story, and his transition to head coach is a natural progression. Having been part of the RCB women’s team’s core group since the inaugural season, he brings deep familiarity with the team’s culture. This aligns with our vision for the club, and Malo understands RCB’s distinctive style of play.”

A former Tamil Nadu cricketer, Malolan has been part of RCB for over six years in various roles. In the last two seasons, he served as the assistant coach of the RCB women’s team. His close involvement with the players and understanding of the franchise made him a natural choice for the top job.

Reacting to his appointment, captain Smriti Mandhana said, “I want to congratulate Malolan Rangarajan on his appointment as head coach of RCB in the WPL. I share great rapport with him and I’ve enjoyed our cricketing discussions. He’s been a positive influence on the girls over the last three years and I’mconfident of working well together, leading RCB to success in the upcoming season.”

RCB won the WPL 2024 title but finished second last in the 2025 season.
