The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has announced important details of its 2026 mega auction. Each team will have Rs 15 crore in their purse, and deductions are based on the number of players retained.

Now, franchises can retain up to five players from their 2025 squads. Reportedly, the deadline for announcing retentions isNovember 5. The auction is expected to take place between November 25 and 29.

According to the WPL’s new retention rules, each franchise can retain a maximum of three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players. However, if a team decides to keep all five, at least one of them must be an uncapped Indian.

The league has also introduced the Right-to-Match (RTM) rule for the first time. This will allow teams to buy players who were already the part of their 2025 squad. However, franchises who have retained all five players will lose the RTM privilege. Teams with lesserretentions will get more RTMs.

Retention will lead to deduction from the purse based on set slabs: Rs 3.5 crore for the first player, Rs 2.5 crore for the second, Rs 1.75 crore for the third, Rs 1 crore for the fourth, and Rs 50 lakh for the fifth. Teams can also negotiate different amounts with different players. Any higher payment will be deducted from their purse.

The WPL has also finalised its pre-auction schedule: teams must announce their retained players by November 5, auction players name by November 7, registration ends on November 18, the final auction list will come out on November 20.
