UP Warriorz head coach Abhishek Nayar has said the franchise is still waiting for a final decision on the availability of Indian star opener Pratika Rawal ahead of the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL).
During a press conference on Monday, Nayar admitted there is uncertainty around Pratika’s availability. “Pratika, we (are) still… I’m not sure to be honest, but I think the NCO, the COE, as they call it now, I think they will take a call on it,” Nayar said. Pratika is recovering from an ankle injury which she sustained during the Women’s ODI World Cup last year.
He added that having players with different skill sets is crucial. “I feel any team is only a good team when you have contrasting players, not players who play the same style and brand of cricket.”
Pratika was last seen in action during India Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 winning campaign. She suffered a knee and ankle injury during the ODI World Cup clash against Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai. Hence, she got ruled out of both the semi-final and final clash of the tournament which India eventually ended up winning. UPW got her at INR 50 Lakh at the mega auction.
UP Warriorz will start their WPL 2026 campaign against Gujarat Giants on January 10 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
