As the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final between Australia and South Africa begins on June 11 at Lord’s, all eyes will be on two key Aussie players—Pat Cummins and Usman Khawaja. Both players are on the verge of achieving major career milestones and could play a crucial role in Australia’s hopes of defending the WTC title.

Australia, the defending champions, are aiming to become the first team to retain the WTC mace. For that to happen, a solid start from Khawaja and fiery spells from Cummins will be vital.

Pat Cummins Set to Join 300-Wicket Club

Captain Pat Cummins is just six wickets away from reaching 300 Test wickets—an achievement only seven Australians have accomplished before. Cummins currently has 294 wickets in 67 Tests and has taken 73 wickets in 17 matches during the current WTC cycle, showcasing his aggressive and effective approach.

Only Nathan Lyon has more WTC wickets than Cummins, with 210 to his name compared to Cummins’ 200, underlining the captain’s impact in high-pressure games.

Usman Khawaja Nears 6,000 Test Runs

Usman Khawaja has been a dependable top-order batter for Australia in the current WTC tournament. In 19 Test matches during this cycle, he has scored 1,422 runs at an average of approximately 42, which includes two centuries and six half-centuries.

Overall, he has amassed 5,930 runs from 80 Tests at an average of 45.61. He is now just 70 runs short of reaching the 6,000-run mark. Khawaja currently sits 16th on Australia’s all-time run-scorers list and is also among the top five run-getters across all WTC tournaments.
