Former England pacer Stuart Broad has been appointed as a bowling consultant for South Africa ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played against Australia at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground from 11 June. This will be Broad’s first coaching assignment since retiring from international cricket in 2023. He is expected to attend South Africa’s training session at Lord’s on 9 June to share his insights and expertise.

The South African team has already arrived in the UK and will play a four-day warm-up match against Zimbabwe at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, starting on 4 June, as part of their preparation for the marquee final. Under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma, South Africa have performed exceptionally well, finishing top of the table in the current WTC cycle. They will be looking to claim their first WTC title.

Stuart Broad is England’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests after James Anderson

Broad took 604 wickets in 167 Test matches for England—the second-highest for the country after James Anderson. He ranks fifth on the all-time list of leading wicket-takers in Test cricket. Remarkably, 153 of those wickets came against Australia—the most by any bowler against a single opponent in Test history. At Lord’s, he claimed 113 wickets in 28 matches.

South Africa will be hoping Broad’s wealth of experience, especially his in-depth knowledge of bowling to Australia, can help them secure their maiden World Test Championship crown.
