Despite not winning an ICC title for a decade, Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, confidently stated that his team does not feel pressure ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Nevertheless, the former Indian captain expressed the team’s desire to secure the trophy, considering their dedicated effort in the past two years. It is worth noting that India previously lost the inaugural WTC final to New Zealand in 2021 and has faced setbacks in knockout matches.
This is what Dravid had to say: “No, not at all. I mean, we don’t feel any pressure in terms of trying to win an ICC trophy. Of course, it would be nice to do it. It would be certainly nice to be able to win an ICC tournament. But also in the context of things, you look at this, and you see this is the culmination of two years of work.”
Ajinkya Rahane is about to participate in his first Test match in 18 months, and if he doesn’t perform well, it could have a negative impact on his career.
Rahul Dravid shared some valuable advice for the seasoned batsman as well.
He said: “Firstly, it’s great to have him on board. Due to a few injuries, he now has the opportunity to rejoin the team, and his return adds significant value to us, given his exceptional skills. He brings a wealth of experience and has shown impressive performances in matches held overseas, including England, where he has played outstanding innings for us. Besides being an amazing slip fielder, his presence contributes to the team dynamics, which is crucial. He has successfully led the team to notable victories. Therefore, I urge him not to view this match as a one-time occurrence.”
