Australian all-rounder Beau Webster is focused on remaining in contention for national selection and is hopeful of earning a place in the playing XI for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa at Lord’s.

“I’d be hugely proud to represent the country in such a big game,” Webster told ICC Digital. “The boys look forward to this fixture and the two-year cycles means there is a lot of cricket to get to this point and being a part of that I’m really proud of. I’ll be doing everything I can to try and play and show everyone what I can do.”

Facing a world-class bowling attack of South Africa will be a challenge, but Webster feels better prepared after his recent experience with Warwickshire in county cricket.

“I was fortunate to get four matches under my belt with Warwickshire, and bowling with the Dukes ball in varied English conditions really helped refine both my batting and bowling,” he said. “Right now, I feel like I’m striking the ball as well as I ever have, and if I get the opportunity, I hope to carry that form into the final.”

Since Australia’s Test tour of Sri Lanka, Webster has focused primarily on red-ball cricket. The tall all-rounder featured in three Sheffield Shield games for Tasmania earlier this year and added four more appearances with Warwickshire in May. In total, across those seven first-class matches, he has scored 348 runs at an average of 34.8 and taken 20 wickets at 25.4.

With Cameron Green expected to feature only as a specialist batter, Webster remains the only seam-bowling all-rounder in Australia’s squad for the big-ticket final
