Ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa, Australian captain Pat Cummins addressed the media. During the press conference, the World Cup-winning skipper shared his views on Kagiso Rabada’s recent drug ban controversy.

The Australian team has long been known for their sharp responses and sledging of opponents. Given the magnitude of Rabada’s case, many expected Australia to use it as an opportunity to unsettle South Africa. However, when asked whether his team had made any remarks about the ban, Cummins denied the claims. “It’s not really our style. I’d be surprised if that came up,” he said.

According to reports released by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS), Rabada was banned after testing positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. The test was conducted during his participation in a domestic Twenty20 competition held in South Africa in January. The pacer had to leave the IPL 2025 season midway to serve the ban. He returned but failed to make a significant impact before flying to London to rejoin the Test squad.

With 327 wickets to his name, Rabada will spearhead South Africa’s pace attack in the WTC Final against Australia at Lord’s. The right-arm seamer is just three wickets away from equalling Allan Donald to take fourth place on South Africa’s all-time Test wicket-takers list.

For Cummins, this will be the second time leading Australia in a WTC Final. They will be defending their title against an in-form South African side at a neutral venue.
