South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has broken his silence after serving a one-month ban for testing positive for recreational drug use during this year’s SA20 competition. The 30-year-old pacer is now cleared to play and has been named in South Africa’s squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at Lord’s, scheduled from 11 to 15 June.
Speaking to the media before his departure for London, Rabada expressed remorse but is ready to move forward from the incident.
“I’m just glad to be playing again. The process was handled really well,” said Rabada. “There are people who would have been disappointed, and to those I’m deeply sorry. The people closest to me are the ones I felt I let down. But life moves on. I’ll never be ‘Mr I-Apologise-Too-Much’ — but I’ll never condone that action.”
Rabada Reconnects with Teammates Ahead of WTC Final
Rabada confirmed that he has already spoken to some of his teammates and intends to continue those conversations during the upcoming tournament.
“They’re my teammates. We’ve come from so far. I think I owe it to them to talk about what happened,” he added.
Rabada is a key figure in South Africa’s bowling line-up. He is expected to lead the pace attack in the WTC final, supported by Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, and Dane Paterson. Meanwhile, spin duties will be handled by Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy.
