As the practice session for the Indian team started on Monday at Edgbaston in Birmingham ahead of the second Test against England, the fielding drills saw a bit of a tweak.

After several dropped catches in the Headingley Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal was not seen in the slip cordon as Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy rotated between the fourth slip and gully with Karun Nair taking the first slip, KL Rahul second and Shubman Gill standing at third slip. While the slip catching session was on, head coach Gautam Gambhir and assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate were helping Jaiswal with a separate flat catching session which lasted for about 15 minutes.

There was special emphasis on catching with the Indian team wanting to improve their fielding after multiple drops and several misfields that cost the visitors the game in Leeds, allowing England to take a 1-0 lead in the five-Test rubber.

Sai and Nitish looked crisp in the cordon and didn’t drop any chances that came their way. Meanwhile, Gambhir was pretty animated with Jaiswal and was showing him techniques of short catching. It won’t be surprising if Jaiswal fields at leg slip or forward short leg or silly point.
