India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has said that he does not believe in the concept of ‘difficult bowlers’. In a podcast with Raj Shamani, he explained that he focuses on the ball rather than the bowler.

“I don’t feel like there are any (tough bowlers),” said Jaiswal. “I don’t think about it at all. I only focus on facing the next ball coming towards me.”

Jaiswal played an important role in India’s impressive run in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England. As an opener, he began the series with a century at Leeds. The southpaw also scored a hundred in the final match at The Oval, helping India set a big target for England. Across five matches, he scored 411 runs at an average of 41.10, including two centuries and two fifties, with a highest score of 118.

The 23-year-old left-handed batter further explained his approach to the game.

“I never give any thought to who the toughest bowler is. The only thing I think about is how I’m going to play the ball coming towards me. I don’t even entertain the thought of who is bowling it,” said Jaiswal.

Jaiswal’s fearless mindset may be influenced by the difficult life he experienced before rising to fame. So far, he has played a single ODI — earlier this year against England — in which he scored 15. He was not included in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.

However, after his impressive performances in England and the IPL, he has been given a chance for the Australia tour, where India are scheduled to play three ODIs.
