Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Wednesday (October 1) that Afghanistan will tour Zimbabwe for a one-off Test and three T20Is.
It was initially planned as an all-format series. However, according to the itinerary shared by the board, the tour will now only feature a one-off Test and three T20Is. The tour is scheduled to begin later this month, with the Test starting on October 20, followed by the T20Is on October 29, October 31, and November 2.
Test cricket will return to Harare for the first time in four years. The last nine Tests involving Zimbabwe were played in Bulawayo. This time, Harare will host both the one-off Test and the three T20Is.
“We are delighted to be hosting Afghanistan once again, this time for a one-off Test followed by three T20Is in Harare,” said Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director, Givemore Makoni.
“Encounters between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan have become keenly contested and entertaining, and we are confident this upcoming tour will deliver more of the same for our fans.”
This will be Afghanistan’s second visit to Zimbabwe in under a year, having last toured 10 months ago for a full-format series in which they emerged victorious across all three formats.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe are currently competing in the semi-finals of the Africa Regional Qualifier. A win against Kenya on Thursday would secure their place in the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February and March next year.
The T20Is against Afghanistan will serve as good preparation for the global tournament.
