Wiaan Mulder delivered a gritty and composed knock for South Africa in the second innings of the ongoing Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. After a disappointing first innings where he was run out for just 17 off 47 balls, Mulder made a strong comeback with a brilliant 147 off 206 balls, featuring 17 fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 71.35.
Walking in at a crucial time when South Africa needed stability, Mulder played with both calmness and intent. He anchored the innings with maturity, guiding the visitors towards a commanding total. He eventually fell while attempting to clear the ropes, caught near the boundary by Kaitano. At the time of his dismissal, South Africa were on 259/6.
South Africa went on to post 369 all out in 82.5 overs in their second innings. Apart from Mulder, Keshav Maharaj contributed a steady 51, while David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, and Corbin Bosch all chipped in with scores in the 30s. However, the top order once again struggled, with Matthew Breetzke falling for just 1, and Tony de Zorzi scoring a quick 31.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers toiled hard but were unable to contain the Proteas’ middle and lower order. Wellington Masakadza was the standout, taking 4 wickets, while Tanaka Chivanga and Tadiwanashe Masekesa picked up two apiece.
By the end of Day 3, Zimbabwe faced an uphill task, needing 505 runs to win the Test match. They finished the day at 32/1, having lost Takudzwanashe Kaitano for 12 off 62 balls. The breakthrough was provided by Corbin Bosch, who continued to impress after contributing with the bat.
