Born to Mohammed Jameel Ahmed and Parvin Sultana in 1996, in modern day Telangana, Nikhat Zareen is one of India’s top pugilists at the moment. She began her boxing journey under her father, Jameel Ahmed, and eventually joined SAI Vishakhapatnam in 2009 to train under Dronacharya Awardee, IV Rao.
Only at 15, she won gold in the AIBA Women’s Junior and Youth World Boxing Championship in Turkey and made a mark in the world boxing arena. Since then, she has won several national and international tournaments including a gold at the Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in 2019, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Zareen secured India’s third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham by triumphing over Carly McNaul from Northern Ireland with a flawless 5-0 victory in the 48–50 kg category, also known as the light flyweight category. Her first major multisport gold medal for the country.

Her first World Championship title was on May 19, 2022. Zareen clinched the gold medal in the 52 kg category defeating Jitpong Jutamas from Thailand in the flyweight final held in Istanbul, Turkey. This accomplishment made Zareen the fifth Indian female boxer to secure a gold medal at the World Championships, joining the ranks of Mary Kom, Laishram Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha KC. Notably, she became only the second Indian boxer to achieve a gold medal at the World Championships on foreign soil, following in the footsteps of MC Mary Kom, who achieved this feat four times out of her six gold medals. She has successfully defended her IBA World Championship title in New Delhi, in 2023. Nikhat secured her second World Championship gold medal in March, 2023. She achieved this feat by claiming a 5-0 victory over Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam in the 48-50 kg category.
She had to settle for a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. Her semi-final defeat to Thailand’s Raksat Chuthamat in the women’s 50kg category determined her placement in the competition.
With Paris Olympics a few months away, Nikhat Zareen will be India’s one of the prime podium prospects. To share her journey and the preparations for that coveted Olympic medal, she will be joining us at the RevSportz Trailblazers Conclave 2.0
