Australian pacer Mitchell Starc lauded Travis Head after Australia sealed the Ashes series with a dominant win at the Adelaide Oval. The victory helped Australia take an unassailable 3–0 lead in the five-match series.
Reflecting on the match in a chat with the broadcaster after the win, Starc highlighted the importance of Travis Head and Alex Carey’s partnership in the second innings.
“He (Head) is the king of Adelaide. It was great to watch him, not just Head, but also Alex, these two guys playing at home and how much this ground means to them,” Starc told the broadcasters. “And how much that partnership meant to us as a group. It was bloody good to watch.”
Head once again proved Adelaide to be one of his favourite grounds. The southpaw hammered a brilliant 170 in the second innings. Together, Head and Carey added 162 runs, which helped Australia post 352 in the second innings and take a 434-run lead.
Speaking about how his experience as a senior player plays a crucial role in such matches, Starc said, “Experience plays a part, going through your highs and lows, but I think the level-headedness of this group, being able to find a way in most situations and forgetting about things that have not gone our way, is enormous and plays a big part. We’ve got a few younger guys too, and I think that rubs off on them as well.”
In a series that has been dominated by Australia so far, Starc has made crucial contributions with both bat and ball. The left-arm pacer picked up 22 wickets in six innings at an economy rate of 3.91. With the bat, he scored 150 runs in four innings at an average of 50.00.
