Former England spinner Monty Panesar wants England to appoint Ravi Shastri as the head coach after Australia defeated them 3-0 in the ongoing Ashes 2025/26 series, with two Test matches still to be played.

Speaking to Ravi Bisht, Panesar emphasised that England should appoint a coach who has first-hand experience of defeating Australia.

“You have to think: who exactly knows how to beat Australia? How do you take advantage of Australia’s weaknesses, mentally, physically, and tactically? I think Ravi Shastri should become England’s next head coach,” he said.

Shastri, who previously served as India’s head coach, defeated Australia twice on Australian soil. India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2018/19 and repeated the feat in 2020/21.

Following England’s poor showing in the ongoing Ashes series, several experts and fans have urged the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to remove Brendon McCullum from his position as the head coach of the Test team.

However, a few days ago, McCullum addressed questions surrounding his future while speaking to reporters.

“I don’t know. It’s not really up to me, is it? I will just keep trying to do the job, try to learn the lessons that I haven’t quite got right here and make adjustments. Those questions are for someone else, not for me,” McCullum said, as quoted by ESPN.
