Australia’s fast bowler Mitchell Starc has surpassed Pakistan legend Wasim Akram to become the highest wicket-taker in Test matches among left-arm pacers.

The former Pakistan pacer praised Starc and wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Super Starc! Proud of you, mate. Your incredible hard work sets you apart, and it was only a matter of time before you crossed my tally of wickets. I am pleased to give this to you! Go well, and keep soaring to new heights in your stellar career.”

Most wickets by left-arm pacers in Test matches:

418 – Mitchell Starc

414 – Wasim Akram

355 – Chaminda Vaas

317 – Trent Boult

311 – Zaheer Khan

Starc continued his strong form in the second Test of the ongoing Ashes series and took six wickets in the first innings on Day One. He gave Australia the first two breakthroughs by dismissing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in his first two overs. Harry Brook was caught by Steve Smith off Starc’s bowling. The Aussie pacer then ran through England’s lower order, taking the wickets of Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, and Brydon Carse.

Starc was also the Player of the Match in the first Test of the Ashes series in Perth, where he took ten wickets in the match.
