Uncapped Delhi batter Ayush Badoni has received his maiden national call-up after Washington Sundar was ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series due to an injury he suffered in the first ODI in Vadodara.
Sundar left the field after bowling five overs and did not return during the first innings. The 26-year-old later came out to bat but appeared to be in visible discomfort. According to the BCCI’s media release, Sundar is nursing a rib injury and will remain under the observation of the medical team.
“India all-rounder Washington Sundar reported acute-onset discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on Sunday. He will undergo further scans, following which the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion,” stated a BCCI release.
“Washington has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of the IDFC First Bank ODI series,” the release added. “The Men’s Selection Committee has named Ayush Badoni as his replacement. Badoni will link up with the squad in Rajkot, the venue for the second ODI.”
Badoni, who has scored 693 runs and claimed 18 wickets in 27 List A matches, will join the squad in Rajkot for the second ODI. The selectors overlooked in-form batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal in favour of Badoni.
India’s updated squad for the 2nd and 3rd ODIs:
Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ayush Badoni
