India’s star batter Jemimah Rodrigues played a key role in India Women’s strong start to the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Jemimah’s knock helped India secure an eight-wicket victory at their home ground, Visakhapatnam, in the first match of the five-match series.

During the post-match presentation, Jemimah spoke about her approach and the goal for the team. She said, “100% That was the mindset, when the runs are coming, I need to capitalise. I will still find the gaps. For me, it was to understand the conditions. It was slightly sticky, not as flat as everyone initially thought. I was in good touch. My mindset was simple. In my mind I was blank, I was just reacting to the ball. We have been going really well. What has happened in the past has happened. What’s next? It is the T20 WC. We just want to win that.”

Jemimah scored an unbeaten 69 runs off 44 balls. Her stunning knock included 10 boundaries at a strike rate of 156.80, which earned her the Player of the Match award.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur also reflected on the win and said, “With bat and ball, yes. We are working on our fielding. Don’t know why we keep dropping catches. It is wet out here, but it is not an excuse. That is something we really need to think about. Next match we will come out with a better approach. We are playing after a month. We don’t want to unnecessarily challenge ourselves. We just want to do well for the team. We just wanted to bowl first and see how it goes. We wanted to show a better approach.”

In the match, Sri Lanka scored 121 runs for six wickets. In reply, India chased the target comfortably in 14.4 overs with 32 balls to spare. The next match will be played on December 23 in Visakhapatnam.
