India wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma revealed that he was shocked when he found out that he had been left out of India’s ICC T20 World Cup squad.

Speaking to CricTracker, Jitesh said that he was “numb” and that Dinesh Karthik’s guidance helped him during that phase.

“It was heartbreaking, as I had worked very hard to play in the ICC T20 World Cup. But that is destiny, I can’t deny it. At that moment, I was numb and couldn’t process anything. Spending time with my family and talking to Dinesh Karthik helped me move forward,” he said.

India’s T20 World Cup squad had two big surprises. Vice-captain Shubman Gill was dropped, and wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh was also left out. In their place, Jharkhand’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was picked, along with Rinku Singh.

After the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Jitesh was a regular member of the T20I team, and it was widely predicted that he would feature in the mega tournament. In IPL 2025 as well, he played some important innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and they went to win the tournament also.

Though Jitesh said that the reasons given by the selectors for leaving him out were logical to him.

“I wasn’t aware of my omission until the squad was announced. After that, I agreed with the explanation given by the selectors in the press conference; it was a valid reason. Later, I had discussions with the coaches and selectors, and I felt their reasoning was fair. I completely understood what they wanted to explain to me, and I agreed with it,” he added.
