Former Pakistan men’s fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the mentor of the Pakistan women’s cricket team for their upcoming white-ball tour of South Africa. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Wahab’s appointment on Wednesday, January 14. The decision was taken after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2025 ODI World Cup, which resulted in the dismissal of head coach Mohammed Wasim.
The South Africa series will include both ODIs and T20Is and will begin on February 10. This series will be Pakistan’s first international assignment since the World Cup. Wahab is expected to add valuable experience, as he has previously served as a national selector.
Currently, he is supervising the squad’s training camp in Karachi, where players are working on their skills for South African conditions. Former cricketers Imran Farhat and Abdul Rehman will also be part of the support staff to strengthen the team’s preparation.
Fatima Sana will continue to lead the Pakistan women’s squad in both ODIs and T20Is during the tour. The squad includes a mix of experienced players and young talent. Uncapped players Saira Jabeen and Humna Bilal have been selected in the T20I squad. In the ODI team, players such as Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza, Tasmia Rubab, and Najiha Alvi have been recalled to add depth and experience to the side.
