India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has expressed his desire to be part of the next T20 World Cup. He also shared how guidance from senior players has helped him and the team lift their confidence.

In a conversation at the Agenda Aajtak conclave, when asked about the possibility of playing the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2026, Jaiswal said, “My dream is to play the T20 World Cup, but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time.” Jaiswal last played a T20I in July 2024 against Sri Lanka at their home ground.

Jaiswal also added his thoughts about the future, saying, “Yes, if I get a chance, I would like to lead India.” The left-hand batter has scored 723 runs in 22 T20I innings at an average of 36.15.

Jaiswal also spoke about how senior players shape the atmosphere in the team. Talking about his bond with Rohit Sharma, he shared, “Every time Rohit bhai scolds us, it has a lot of love and indulgence mixed with it. In fact, if Rohit bhai isn’t scolding you, there is a sense of unease as to what happened, why isn’t he scolding? Has he felt bad about my action?”

He also praised both Rohit and Virat Kohli for motivating youngsters and guiding them during matches. “When they are there, it is great for us as they discuss the game. They share their experiences. The intensity with which they have played and won games for India, they are like inspiration. They tell us about the mistakes they made in their younger days and how we can avoid making those mistakes,” Jaiswal said.
