The ICC is likely to take a hardline stance against the Bangladesh Cricket Board over its plea to move Bangladesh’s matches in the upcoming T20 World Cup out of India. If Bangladesh refuse to play in India, then they risk forfeiting points. It is learnt that at this moment, the ICC aren’t mulling on altering the schedule. Bangladesh are scheduled to play three group league matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai.

The ICC brass had an online meeting with the BCB officials on Tuesday, but no official communication has been issued by either side. It’s not known if the BCCI, too, was part of the meeting.

There have been previous instances of teams forfeiting points by refusing to travel to a particular country at ICC events. Australia and West Indies had to forfeit points at the 1996 World Cup, as they refused to travel to Sri Lanka due to security reasons. At the 2003 World Cup, England didn’t go to Zimbabwe due to political reasons and dropped points.

On Sunday, the BCB sent a letter to the ICC, asking the game’s governing body to move Bangladesh’s matches in the upcoming T20 World Cup out of India due to “security” reasons. It came after Kolkata Knight Riders’ decision to release seamer Mustafizur Rahman after the BCCI directive.
