Star batter Virat Kohli is just one half-century away from breaking another record as an Indian batter. He has a chance to achieve the feat in the second ODI against New Zealand in the ongoing three-match series in Rajkot.
Top Indian batters like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Kohli have all scored five consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODIs. If Kohli scores another fifty in Rajkot, he will become the first Indian batter to score six consecutive fifty-plus scores.
Kohli’s sensational form started on the Australia tour. He had a very poor start in the first two matches, where he could not open his account. However, the right-hander made a strong comeback in the fourth match and scored an unbeaten 74 to guide India to victory.
In the following series against South Africa, he hit two back-to-back hundreds in the first two matches and an unbeaten half-century in the third match. In total, he played three matches and scored 302 runs.
The Delhi-born batter played a match-winning knock against New Zealand in the first match of the ongoing series but missed his hundred by just seven runs. Javed Miandad (9) holds the record for the most consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODIs. Imam-ul-Haq is second on the list, having achieved the feat seven times.
